Font Introduction
It is one of the computer fonts dedicated to displaying the Qur'anic text in conformity with the Uthmanic Script. It is a computer font that was built in accordance with the unified international coding Unicode, which is a global system that enables data to move across different systems and devices, without displaying it in a distorted form, no matter how many companies that manufacture systems and languages, and the countries that this data passes through. With the grace of Allah, this computer font was built and developed fully by the Research and Development Unit work team in the Information Technology Department at King Fahd Glorious Qur’an Printing Complex.
The Developmental Stages of Building the Font:
The Hafs font was built with the Uthmanic Script, through the following work stages:
[ 1 ] Determining the work team, studying and analyzing the project requirements, bearing in mind the problems and errors discovered in the common Arabic computer fonts, including a number of well-known computer fonts such as the Traditional Arabic font from Microsoft, Lotus font from Linotype, and other popular fonts.
[ 2 ] Preparing a time-bound plan for the implementation and review phases, and implementing the amendments and improvements proposed during the examination and audit phases.
[ 3 ] Writing the single letters and all other combinations by the calligrapher of al-Madinah al-Nabawiyyah Musḥaf, Shaikh ‘Uthmān Ṭaha .
[ 4 ] Starting the programming work by specialized programmers, under the supervision and review of the calligrapher of the Musḥaf.
[ 5 ] Launching first editions and making them available for download from the website that is dedicated to the computer fonts of the King Fahd Glorious Qur’an Printing Complex.

Relation to Unicode:
Hafs Font with the Uthmanic Script was originally designed based on Unicode without any special repeated letters. For example when we write the word ..
Additional Features of the Font:
2. Supporting the superscript for the word in case there is a Sajda at the end of the Ayah by using Unicode No. U06E4. For Example:
4. The spot of the Hamza of Alif when it is topped with Fatha was adjusted by replacing the Unicode for Fatha with Macron. Hence, the Hamza that is topped with Fatha will appear at the right place as designed in the Uthmanic Script. For example:
5. Lowercase letters, that indicate the dropped off letters in the Uthmanic Musḥafs that must be pronounced, was adjusted. These attached letters appear as approved in the Uthmanic Musḥaf design. For Example:
6. Sukoon diacritic, that appear when the Hamza is written on Alif-Mad to indicate sukoon, was adjusted. As shown in the following example:
7. Imala diacritic, which is called al-imala al-kobra and appears as a blurry dot under the letter that needs imala, has been adjusted. As shown in the following example:
Or at the top of the letter that needs Imala, as in the following example:
Unicode Module
The Research and Development Unit in the Computer Department at King Fahd Glorious Qur’an Printing Complex relied on the unicode system unicode to create (Hafs) font in the Uthmanic Script, because this system is followed globally among computer and systems manufacturing companies in the world.
Unicode organization is a global code group that is used to define all codes and letters used in most of the world's languages and gathered in one code to facilitate the presentation and delivery on information despite of the language used. This global coding uses 1 to 4 bytes (byte = 8 bits) to encode letters, and so far only a third of the number available in Unicode organization to encode the letters of these languages.
Taking into account Hafs font with the Uthmanic Script, which was built entirely on the unicode system. We can explore the basic letters that were formed according to the following figure:
Whereas the font was developed starting from code (0600 ) to code (066FF ) Taking into account there are several encoded letters that haven't been used at all so it was replaces with the code []. The displayed copy above is the one that is been developed from the basic Arabic coding (0600-06FF) which was updated by Unicode organization in 2009.
